Pamper days

My fav form of self-love has to be pamper days (aka my self-care Sundays!) This involves me pampering myself with a nice facial, bit of hair care and a manicure! During the week, we may be busy with work, house duties or whatever else. Sometimes we get so consumed in things, we don't get any down time. Therefore, I think it’s so important that we dedicate at least a day to just looking after ourselves and having some ‘me’ time. If you can’t afford a whole day, I’m sure you can try find a couple of hours. I usually do them on Sundays where I can relax after a long week and get ready for the week ahead. FYI boys, you can also do facials! Every woman likes a guy who can take care of themselves!

 

For years, I’ve made sure I have a day in the week to myself to relax, unwind and take care of myself. I just zone out and forget about everything around me. I put on some old school R&B, do my facial routine, hair care routine and make my nails look pretty. Any stress or anxiety I was feeling before disappears and I just enjoy being in my little bubble for a while. You can also light some candles to give yourself that spa feeling! My friend just got me an oil diffuser for my birthday so I can’t wait to get my essential oils out and make it part of my self-care day!

 

Pampering has so many positive effects on our physical and mental health. It relaxes muscles, reduces pain and improves concentration. One of the biggest benefits is that it’s a good stress reliever. Stress is a real killer. It can lead to headaches, eating disorders, skin concerns and even cancer. Pampering yourself allows you to de-stress and keeps you in the right state of mind, so you can get through whatever it is that’s causing a burden. It allows you to refocus and eases the feeling of being overwhelmed. You will find yourself feeling refreshed, calm and ready to take on whatever comes your way. This improvement in our mental health will reflect on our physical health. If you’ve suffered from acne like me, you will know that stress is a trigger. Therefore, the effect of being less stressed (and the skincare products themselves) will lead to clearer and healthy-looking skin. It also has great effects on the body, such as, lower blood pressure. But like with a lot of things, you need to be consistent to see the results.

 

Sometimes, these acts of self-care are so underrated. It might be hard to believe that doing such things will significantly improve your health and well-being. But speaking from experience, it is worth it. I’ve been doing it before I even knew the importance of self-love, and I find it is the best way to just relax and spend some time focusing on yourself. Before, I was doing it more because I was concerned about my skin. But overtime, I’ve realised the benefits it has on my mental health. (Plus, it’s an excuse to indulge yourself!) It's amazing what just 10 minutes to yourself can do, let alone a whole day!

 

So yeah, if you don’t already, I defo recommend having a pamper sesh from time to time! Trust me, you’ll be glowing differently, and you will feel so good!

 

Ways to pamper yourself:

  1. Give yourself a facial

  2. Give yourself a manicure/pedicure

  3. Listen to relaxing music

  4. Light some candles / use an oil diffuser

  5. Long bubble bath

  6. Groom yourself
